Good News: J&K Government to Clear 2000 SRO-43 Cases
Jammu and Kashmir Government to Clear 2000 SRO 43 Cases, Identify Vacancies
JAMMU, Oct 25: In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir Government is set to address a backlog of nearly 2000 SRO 43 appointments, providing relief to those awaiting compassionate appointments, including the kin of militancy victims, border shelling/firing victims, and families of deceased Government employees.
These appointments have been pending for some time due to the recent transition to a new policy for such jobs.
Under the previous scheme of SRO 43, family members of those killed in militancy or border-related incidents, as well as Government employees who died in service, were eligible for government jobs.
However, the new Compassionate Appointments policy, in effect since January 1, 2023, introduced a merit-based criteria for such posts, meaning only those meeting the criteria would secure jobs, while others would receive fixed compensation.
Government sources have revealed that nearly 2000 vacancies, primarily in the Class-IV category in various departments, have been identified. The Government is expected to soon clear the backlog of 2000 SRO 43 cases, offering jobs to many youths who have been waiting for a considerable period.
This decision not only creates 2000 job opportunities but also brings significant relief to the victims of militancy, border shelling/firing, and the families of deceased Government employees who have been eagerly awaiting compassionate appointments.
The new scheme aims to provide appointment or monetary compensation to dependent family members of Government servants who die in the line of duty, due to militancy-related or enemy action on the Line of Control/International Border within Jammu and Kashmir. This move seeks to prevent their families from facing financial destitution.
To ensure transparency and equity, the new scheme incorporates provisions for receiving online applications centrally through a designated portal in the General Administration Department. The selection process will be based on a point-based merit system, with vacancies and merit lists made public to ensure transparency and accountability.
Appointments on compassionate grounds will be made for multi-tasking staff or equivalent positions in the department. However, individuals with higher qualifications may be considered for non-gazetted cadre positions.
Even after the introduction of the new policy, compassionate appointment cases still pending for various reasons will be dealt with in accordance with SRO 43 of 1994, as amended from time to time.
